A few years after moving into our tiny house, we got a cat. We adore her, but it soon became clear that our home wasn’t set up for a cat. We scrambled to figure out where to put her litter box and how to keep her safely inside.

Since then, we’ve tweaked our place to make it work, and now I always get excited about pet-friendly features when I check out other tiny homes.

What Makes a Tiny House Great for Pets?

Look for these pet-friendly touches:

  • A tucked-away spot for the litter box.
  • Dedicated areas for pet supplies or feeding.
  • Catwalks up high for adventurous felines.
  • Tunnels that let cats go outside but stay safe.
  • Features that prevent pets from darting out the door.
  • Pet doors for dogs and cats to come and go as they please.
  • Storage for dog kennels.
  • Floors that are easy to clean, like hardwood.
  • A cozy loft just for pets.

Here are some cat- and dog-friendly tiny houses with clever designs just for pets.
