Tucked away in the peaceful Eastern Townships near Montréal, there’s this cool 1950s A-frame tiny house. It’s been sitting there for ages, kind of forgotten and showing the wear of tough Canadian winters. But the new owners saw it as more than just an old shack. They wanted to turn it into a modern spot right by the lake, while keeping things eco-friendly. They teamed up with Matière Première Architecture and Nu Drom construction to make it happen.
Concept and Design Philosophy
The whole idea was to make the tiny house feel like part of the landscape. They wanted you to hardly notice the line between inside and outside, making it a perfect chill-out spot. The house’s A-frame shape was a big inspiration, making for some cool, flowing spaces that make the most of the lake views.
Materials: Going Green and Sturdy
Choosing the right materials was all about being green and making sure everything lasted. They went with local, sustainable stuff like white pine floors and exposed wood that really make the place feel warm and homey. For the outside, they picked white cedar siding and a metal roof to handle the weather and look better with age.
Overcoming Construction Challenges
Even though it’s small, they packed a lot of smart design into the tiny house. There’s this huge A-frame window that lights up the place and shows off the lake.It has a comfortable area to relax in, a stylish loft for hanging out and even a functional kitchen and sleeping area.
Construction Details
Building here was not an easy task given the steep landscape plus its remote location. However, the team was fully committed taking advantage of obstacles as opportunities for creativity while keeping things environmentally friendly. They even used a temporary cable crane to bring in materials without messing up the landscape. They also fixed up the lakeshore with local plants to keep the environment healthy.
A Modern Lakeside Retreat
This makeover turned the old A-frame into something special—a stylish, functional retreat that stays true to its roots and respects nature. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s a getaway for enjoying the quiet of the outdoors, making memories, and dreaming big.
